The Shiba Inu is a Japanese dog breed that dates back to the third century. Historical records show that the Shiba Inu was bred for hunting, and it was not until the late nineteenth century that the breed began to be used as a companion animal.
Shibas are small dogs, and are known for their independent spirit and loyal nature. Although the Shiba Inu is not well-known outside of Japan, it has become one of the most popular dog breeds in its home country. Thanks to its friendly temperament and distinct appearance, the Shiba Inu has won the hearts of dog lovers around the world.

Shiba Puppies Temperament
The Shiba Inu is a loyal and protective dog breed that is known for its independent streak. Although they are small in size, they are fiercely independent and very territorial. They are also known for being very suspicious of strangers.
Shibas are bred as hunting dogs and have a strong prey drive. They are intelligent and quick learners, but they can also be stubborn and headstrong. Training must be done with firmness and consistency. These pups also need plenty of daily exercise to stay happy and healthy. They do best in homes with a fenced-in yard where they can run and play safely. Overall, the Shiba Inu is a devoted companion that will form a strong bond with its family.
Shiba Inu Puppies Health Considerations
Though generally very healthy and long-lived — with an average lifespan of around 12 to 16 years — our Shiba Inus for sale are not without their unique health concerns. Like every breed of dog, there are a few conditions you should be aware of before you consider purchasing one of our Shiba puppies for sale. Understanding the risks allows you to know the signs and prevent small health concerns from turning into big ones.
Shiba Inu puppies are at somewhat elevated risk for developing the following conditions:
- Allergies
- Hip Dysplasia
- Eye Disorders
Allergies are a common issue for Shiba Inus, and they can be difficult to manage. Many Shibas also suffer from hip dysplasia, a condition that can cause pain and lameness. Eye disorders are also relatively common in Shibas, and they can range from mild to serious.
Finding a Shiba Inu puppy for sale from a reputable breeder can dramatically — although, not eliminate — the risk of your dog developing some of these conditions. Shiba Puppy Coat & Coat Care
Shibas are known for their thick, luxurious coats, which can come in a variety of colors including red, black, and white. The coat is double-layered, with a soft undercoat and a coarse outer coat. The outer coat is waterproof, making Shiba Inus particularly well-suited to cold weather. However, the coat also requires regular care to maintain its luster and prevent matting. Brushing at least once a week is essential, and it’s also important to bathe your Shiba Inu regularly to remove any dirt or debris that may be tangled in the coat. With proper care, your Shiba Inu’s coat will stay healthy and beautiful for years to come.
